The UN assumes that searches in the UOC-MP may constitute 'discrimination': Ukraine responded
The organization expressed concern about the actions of the Ukrainian special services on the territory of the UOC MP.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that the raids of the Ukrainian security forces in the buildings of the UOC-MP had a "discriminatory nature."
This is stated in the UN report on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
It is noted that the organization expressed concern, as such actions of the special services could allegedly violate the rights of members of the UOC-MP.
Previously, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted searches in monasteries, offices and educational institutions and other property of the UOC MP. The UN added that, according to their data, in some cases, members of the special services interrogated clerics using a polygraph.
In response, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleh Nikolenko, stated in a comment to 24 Channel, that Ukraine is a democratic state, where freedom of religion is guaranteed.
“At the same time, freedom is not the same as the right to engage in activities that undermine national security. We call on OHCHR to refrain from unbalanced political assessments and base its reports on facts," Nikolenko replied.
