The US and Germany stand for freezing the conflict – an expert
Ukraine needs the support of its allies.
War
The NATO summit in Washington will not bring significant decisions regarding the situation in Ukraine—neither in terms of expansion nor security guarantees. This is partly because the Alliance lacks a unified vision of the war's objectives.
This opinion was expressed by Gustav Gressel, Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, as part of a comprehensive survey of influential European diplomats, experts and American military personnel, conducted by TSN.ua in partnership with the New Europe Center.
"Since the full-scale invasion, NATO countries have been primarily concerned with their own security, increasing defense spending, strengthening NATO forces on the eastern flank, and restoring joint military structures for planning and organizing collective defense. Only the Baltic countries and Denmark have considered supporting Ukraine a higher priority than participating in moderate NATO actions," the expert emphasized.
Gressel notes that while France and most NATO members support the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, but the largest suppliers of military aid - the US and Germany - stand for freezing the conflict, whereas Turkey and Hungary have "revisionist plans."
"The camp of “freezing” supporters believes that any definition of Ukraine's future will complicate the start of negotiations. This is a grave mistake. Russia will not start genuine negotiations as long as it has even a single real chance of complete victory in the war. This can be changed by providing military support to Kyiv," the expert stated.
