These are already the weeks that will largely define this year: key points from Zelenskyy's address

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his traditional evening video address, summed up the day of June 4.

Staff Meeting

Upon returning to Kyiv, Zelenskyy held a Staff Meeting. He listened to a report by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on the situation in the main directions.

According to the President, the most battles and the heaviest attacks are in Donetsk region, which is in fact the main direction of Russian strikes.

"Of course, we also addressed the situation in the south, in Kharkiv region, in the border areas of Sumy and Chernihiv regions. I am grateful to every unit, every commander and soldier thanks to whom it was possible to stabilize the Kharkiv direction. We are doing everything necessary, step by step, to make Russia see that we have the means to respond to any attempt to expand the war and increase pressure on Ukraine. And we are working with our partners to improve our capabilities – to make them even more long-range," - the head of state said.

There were reports from Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Minister of Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin. It was about the fight against Russian drones and the development of Ukraine's own UAV and electronic warfare technologies. The meeting also identified priority areas for the deployment of air defense systems that are awaited.

Chief of the General Staff Anatoliy Bargylevych reported on the state of preparation, arming and staffing of brigades and reserves. The heads of Kharkiv, Sumy and Chernihiv military administrations reported on the further construction of fortifications, the protection of important objects, including power generation, and the current state of providing people with electricity.

Defining days and weeks

"I gave several instructions on the preparations for the next meetings of the Staff and the next decisions. We see the threats that exist. The State must be ready to respond accordingly," Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, it is only the beginning of June, but these are already the weeks that will determine the whole summer and, in many ways, this year. This particularly concerns the Peace Summit.
