President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv expects support from all European Union member states regarding Ukraine’s future accession, including Poland and Hungary. According to him, even difficult moments in relations with neighboring countries should not become an obstacle to European integration.
He made the remarks during a press conference in Dublin marking the start of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Ukraine has met all Brussels' requirements
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine has fulfilled all the requirements set by Brussels for advancing its EU accession talks.
«Despite Orban and everything else, we have done everything required. I hope that Peter Magyar supports this. I also hope that the Polish government supports it. It is important to understand that when we have rules, not just political emotions, we must do what needs to be done,» he said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has carried out the necessary reforms amid a full-scale
war while simultaneously defending not only its own territory but also the security of the entire European continent.
The president also commented on the potential impact of Ukrainian-Polish disagreements on Ukraine’s path toward EU membership. He noted that the two countries may still have difficult historical issues, but these should not define their future relations.
«There are certain difficulties in our shared history. But most countries have had difficulties in their past. Yet today we live in the present, we are facing aggression, and we must remain united,» he said.
Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is effectively defending Europe’s collective security and that countries should seek solutions that allow them to move forward.
«We are defending the EU, and we must think about the future security of our peoples. Solutions can be found to any issue if we are ready to be strong neighbors and genuinely want to find them,» he stressed.
The president also referred to the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Gdańsk, saying it demonstrated support for Kyiv from both the Polish government and Polish businesses.
According to Zelenskyy, thousands of company representatives and international partners attended the event and expressed interest in future projects aimed at rebuilding Ukraine.
