"They Haven’t Abandoned This Idea, the Situation Is Tense”: Expert Estimates the Risk of Another Attack from Belarus

Russians have no physical capacity to gather sufficient task force and form a strike group for another invasion into northern parts of Ukraine. However, this is still a relevant concern, while Russian shellfire in the North poses an actual threat.

"They Haven’t Abandoned This Idea, the Situation Is Tense”: Expert Estimates the Risk of Another Attack from Belarus

The Russian army will likely continue to shell the borderline parts of Ukraine in order to distract the Ukrainian military from eastern and southern direction, Serhii Hrabskyi, the military expert, says in his interview for Freedom.

"The containment operation will be the objective reality in order to bind our units, which could have been much more efficiently used in other area. We have no other choice but to keep them there in order to repel the enemy strikes and potential invasion attempts”, the expert explained.

According to him, after AFU’s successful operations, it will take a long time for Russian Army to recover its capacity to attack the Northern parts of Ukraine from Russian or Belorussian territory. However, the Russian leadership hasn’t yet abandoned this idea.

According to Hrabskyi, it took almost a year for Russians to concentrate their forces and deploy military equipment in the corresponding areas. For now, there are no evidences of deployment of Russian ground troops in Belarus, however the enemy air forces are still active in the country’s territory.

"Today, they have no physical capacity to gather sufficient task force and form a strike group. However, it doesn’t mean that they have abandoned this idea... We cannot rule out the activity of sabotage and reconnaissance forces, invasion attempts and provocative actions in the Ukrainian airspace. The situation is still tense, but from strategic point of few we don’t yet consider any military operations in that direction is an obvious threat. Although, we still had do keep there some forces and resources”, Hrabskyi stressed.
