On Friday, October 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Headquarters of the Commander-in-Chief, one of the main topics of which was the protection of energy facilities from Russian attacks in winter.
He announced this in his traditional evening address.
"This winter, Russian terrorists will once again attempt to destroy our energy system. They cannot accept the fact that Ukraine will not be conquered anyway. But they will try to launch more attacks and make more attempts to bypass our defenses," the President emphasized.
Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian government fully understands such a danger, so at today's meeting, military personnel and all officials responsible for "protecting our energy sector and our winter survival strategy" reported. In particular, the head of the government, ministers, energy company leaders, representatives from the communications sector, and regional administration heads reported on this matter.
"Winning this winter, overcoming all difficulties, and providing protection to our people is crucial. And, by the way, local authorities must fully carry out their preparatory work. Next week, we will record the current state of preparations for winter in the regions," the President said. Volodymyr Zelenskyy also emphasized that before the start of the heating season, the strengthening of Ukrainian air defense and cooperation with partners is taking place for the sake of the stability of the Ukrainian energy industry, adding that this week has already strengthened us significantly. In particular, he confirmed the transfer of another "Patriot" battery by Germany and reminded of the additional "Hawk" air defense systems promised by the Spanish government.
