We might face more than just power outages: an expert outlines a pessimistic winter scenario

An expert does not rule out that, if the transit of Russian gas is halted in January-February, Ukraine may face the need to implement gas supply schedules.

This winter, which could become the most challenging in the years of independence, Ukrainians may experience not only power outages but also gas supply schedules.

This opinion was expressed by Yuriy Korolchuk, an expert at the Energy Strategies Institute, on the air of Den.LIVE.

According to him, the situation in July, when the power supply could be out for up to 12 hours a day, is an optimistic scenario for December, January and February. He specified that everything would depend on the air temperature. Even if the winter turns out to be relatively mild, power outages will still be unavoidable, Korolchuk believes.

The expert also highlighted the situation with gas supply.

"The situation with gas could be better. There might be enough of it, as in previous years. The only issue is if the transit of Russian gas is terminated, then starting in January-February, Ukraine might have to implement gas supply schedules. These could resemble electricity supply schedules, with supply alternating during certain periods. But this is a pessimistic forecast," Korolchuk says.
