The "Shahed" attack drones, used by Russia to terrorize Ukrainian cities, are difficult to detect and challenging to shoot down. Additionally, their launch trajectory passes over complex terrain.

This was reported by the head of the public relations department of the Air Force Command, Illya Yevlash.

According to him, the Air Force lacks sufficient ground-based air defense systems to completely secure Ukraine's skies.

"It’s quite difficult to shoot down [the attack drone] with our old planes, such as the MiGs, because the "Shahed" is very small and hard to spot, and the radars on the planes are outdated. In this case, we would benefit from other Western planes, more modern ones, which have better detection capabilities, and, of course, missiles," he said.

Ihor Yevlash says that, in addition to being hard to detect, the "Shahed" is also difficult to shoot down.

"If its wings are hit, it can still continue flying. If the power block or engine is damaged, it may dive or explode in the air. Moreover, it is quite difficult to hit it with a machine gun. Good shooting skills are required," the Air Force spokesperson explained.

Additionally, according to Yevlash, the enemy tries to launch "Shaheds" over difficult terrain - ravines, valleys, and riverbeds, where mobile fire groups cannot quickly reach, or over forests, where precise shooting is impossible.
