The President's Office denied claims that in 2022 President Zelenskyy was prepared to accept the borders as of February 23, freezing the status of Crimea and other territories of Donbas occupied by Russia since 2014.
This was stated by Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, in an interview with Corriere Della Sera. Yermak assures that Zelensky has never discussed a territorial compromise.
"But it’s true that he was ready for negotiations based on the situation before Russia’s invasion. For us, Crimea and Donbas remain Ukrainian. They are not subject to discussion. We are against freezing the war. Instead, we want to end it. We assure you that the countries of the Global South also condemn the Russian invasion and territorial seizure by force," said Yermak.
In his view, negotiations should begin by returning to the situation before the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
"Then we will discuss how to restore our sovereignty to the 1991 borders," Yermak concluded.
