President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine did not have enough weapons and other equipment to begin an active counteroffensive. He stated this on August 20 during a press conference with Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen.

"If you have a shortage of armored vehicles, a shortage of tanks... you will simply lose people. Thousands of people could have died. You may advance one, two, three, or five kilometers, but you will lose thousands of people. They will simply die, and you won't achieve the goal that we all need. It's de-occupation - full de-occupation - of our entire territory," the President explained.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine was waiting until it had the capabilities for a counteroffensive. At the same time, according to the President, the Russians used this time to actively mine the territory and build fortifications.

"They built many fortifications 8 years ago... starting from 2015-2016... They did it in Donbas after its occupation," the President revealed.

At the same time, he added that he couldn't criticize partners because Ukraine did receive support from them.
