Zelenskyy outlines what security guarantees Ukraine will accept

The Ukrainian President insists there is no need to wait until the war ends to begin talks on security guarantees.

Ukraine does not consider a “Korean model” for ending the war. Even the introduction of a ceasefire would be enough to trigger the implementation of security guarantees.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this during a meeting with journalists.

“From our negotiations, it’s clear that if Ukraine "swallows what’s been put on the plate"—in other words, accepts a bad territorial decision—then others will try to resolve everything without us,” Zelenskyy said. “For example, in our talks about a ceasefire, they repeated the Russian narrative that supposedly we’re preparing for an offensive, that we can’t be given a pause.

I told them: "I just don’t understand how we could violate signed security guarantees if the war is truly over."

Take South Korea as an example, which has U.S. security guarantees and accordingly developed into a formidable country, while North Korea is North Korea. And there is no final document there, no final peace agreement on the Korean Peninsula. If we have such a fundamental agreement, and such a long path to it, then who would dare become their own worst enemy? If I don’t have a peace agreement, but we have a halt, a ceasefire, and strong security guarantees that Putin won’t strike again, why would I violate that? Our position is absolutely logical, and on this basis, it is supported by many of our partners," he said.
