Belarus has begun forming a new brigade of army special operations forces, which will be based in the Gomel region, bordering Ukraine.

This was stated by the commander of Belarusian Special Operations Forces, Major General Vadim Denisenko, as reported by Russian propaganda media.

"A decision was made to strengthen the southern sector specifically… At present, this is, so to speak, the most volatile direction, which keeps us all on alert," Denisenko said.

He stated about the "very difficult situation" currently around Belarus. According to the major general, "we are reacting to it, for example, we are carrying out tasks to cover sections of the border."

"On the one hand, this is an unusual task for us, but on the other hand, we have been carrying it out since 2022. We understand that it is necessary and demonstrate our readiness to defend the homeland right at the borders," Denisenko added.

According to him, the Special Operations Forces are "ready to carry out tasks as assigned to protect the Republic of Belarus."
