Russian president Vladimir Putin stated at the RF Security Council meeting the necessity of preparing for potential nuclear tests.

This was reported by the “Astra” channel.

He urged taking seriously the statement by US President Donald Trump about plans to conduct nuclear tests and suggested that Defense Minister Andrey Belousov comment on the matter.

In response, Belousov stated that he deems it appropriate to immediately begin preparations for full-scale tests.

Putin stressed that Russia continues to honor its commitments under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), but said that if other countries conduct such tests, the Russian Federation “must take adequate measures.”

“I instruct the Foreign Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the special services and the relevant civilian agencies to do everything necessary to collect additional information on this issue, analyse it at the Security Council platform and submit coordinated proposals on a possible start of work to prepare tests of nuclear weapons,” Putin said.
