The Russian and Iranian regimes are no longer merely cooperating but sustaining each other through mutual support while directing aggression against the civilized world. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says intelligence data indicate Russia is directly involved in coordinating strikes on U.S. facilities in the Middle East.

He made the statement in his evening video address on March 7.

Shared architecture of terror

According to the president, Moscow is actively helping Tehran improve its military operations by providing intelligence used to guide attacks on U.S. bases.

He stressed that the cooperation goes beyond intelligence sharing. Russian technological components have been found in Iranian "Shahed" kamikaze drones used in attacks across the region.

The drones have been used both against U.S. forces and against Arab countries, which shows a deliberate attempt to destabilize the Middle East.

Synchronized aggression: from Ukraine to the Middle East

Zelenskyy says the world is facing a single center of coordination that is fuelling conflicts in different parts of the globe.

“Each such fact shows that we are dealing with regimes that are not simply connected to one another but exist thanks to one another – the Russian and Iranian regimes – and are effectively killing in a coordinated way both here in Europe and there in the Middle East,” the president said.

This synchronization of efforts by Moscow and Tehran shows that modern authoritarian regimes view war as a key instrument of expansion, Zelenskyy said.

Ignoring such cooperation would only increase the threat to both European security and stability in the Persian Gulf, he added.

What it means for the West

The exposure of such deep integration between Russia and Iran shifts the discussion about support for Ukraine into a different context.

The world is beginning to realize that a Ukrainian victory over Russia would directly affect the security of U.S. and Arab partners in the Middle East.

Attempts to treat these conflicts separately are becoming increasingly futile, as the enemy operates as a single coordinated front.
