The threat from Belarus and a potential enemy offensive from the north are completely real.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, issued this warning in an interview with Militarnyi.
Syrsky believes a Russian offensive from Belarus is highly likely, a move that would force Ukraine to defend an even longer front line.
«We currently have 1,200 km of active front line. The enemy outnumbers us two to one in brigades and regiments. We are in continuous combat. And the trend points to an expanding front line. You are aware of our latest intelligence reports and statements from our president, the supreme commander-in-chief, regarding the Russian threat from Belarus and a possible operation in the north. It is real,» Syrskyi warned.
Specifically, he noted that the Russian General Staff is actively calculating and planning offensive operations from the north.
«This means the front line will stretch even further,» the Ukrainian commander-in-chief said.
Syrsky explained that this expanding front line, combined with the need to counter immediate threats, complicates the instant reallocation and permanent assignment of brigades to specific army corps during the active phase of the war.
