Can Russia attack from Transnistria? State Border Guard Service responds
A Border Guard Service spokesman outlined why Russia is unable to use the Transnistrian direction for aggression.
Threat from Transnistria
There are currently no signs of active troop movements or a build-up of enemy forces from the unrecognised Transnistrian region.
This was stated by Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, Suspilne reported.
He explained that risks associated with Transnistria stem mainly from Russia’s influence in the region, adding that Ukraine reinforced this stretch of the border from the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
“We are fortifying this section of the border so that we can fully control it and ensure security for our country. Luckily, we do not see any active troop movements or build-ups directly across our border,” Demchenko said.
He added that small-scale movements of groups were observed only at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. Since then, through 2023, 2024, and up to the present, no sabotage or reconnaissance attempts have been recorded from this direction.
“Russia knows it cannot generate the level of activity needed from this direction to achieve results,” the Border Guard Service spokesman concluded.
