An operation is under way on the Zaporizhzhia front, but it is not a counteroffensive. It consists of strikes on Russian forward units.
This was stated by military expert Ivan Tymochko on the Kyiv24 TV channel.
Current situation on the Zaporizhzhia front
He stresses that the latest actions by Ukraine’s defense forces are not a counteroffensive, as Russia portrays them.
«These are strikes on Russian forward units, targeting those who managed to infiltrate somewhere. And in the current cold conditions, if Russian soldiers are cut off somewhere, even in a single settlement, without external support, that means certain death from freezing, ” the expert said.
According to Tymochko, Russia’s chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov has identified the Zaporizhzhia front as a priority. However, his earlier claims that Russian troops were supposedly already approaching Zaporizhzhia do not correspond to reality.
He added that the focus on the Zaporizhzhia front became a priority for Gerasimov after setbacks on the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad front.
«His position became shaky, and it appears the Zaporizhzhia direction is a chance to shore up his position with Putin and retain his post. The enemy spared no forces and committed substantial resources, ” Tymochko said.
