Ukrainian journalist and publicist Vitalii Portnikov says the so-called Trump peace plan is likely to be quickly abandoned, despite active discussions by European leaders. Portnikov believes the initiative will «fade away» within a few days, repeating the fate of the «minerals agreement.»

He shared this view in an interview with Obozrevatel.

The journalist clarified why European leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, are actively engaged in discussing a plan that «does not exist, ” suggesting amendments to it.

According to him, the Europeans’ aim is not so much to fill in the document itself, as it is to convey information to Trump, who is «a listener, not a reader.»

«I think what awaits us next is simply the end of this story and the start of something new… I suppose French President Emmanuel Macron, who calls Trump on his mobile, has already called around 25 times… „I want to add a few more points to the document that are very important for France.“ Then the French president begins to explain, politely, to his colleague that he is acting irrationally. Trump listens and begins to understand that the situation is not so favorable and that he needs to find a way to get out of it, ” Portnikov said.

The journalist believes that the Europeans are thus pushing Trump toward an outcome that is beneficial from his perspective, helping him find a way out of the situation. Portnikov predicts that this initiative will have the same ending as Trump’s other «agreements.»

«In a few days, this story will simply fade away, just like the minerals agreement… Even though many believe it is still active, ” the journalist concluded.
