Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said after a February 4 meeting of the Energy Headquarters that the country’s energy system remains critically strained and electricity outage schedules may worsen.
He said the risk of stricter power cuts is linked to the aftermath of the latest large-scale attack on energy infrastructure and a significant generation deficit that still affects the system. Intelligence information suggests Russia may launch further attacks on energy facilities in the near future.
Repair work is ongoing across the country. In Kyiv alone, more than 230 repair crews are working, alongside 40 additional teams from Naftogaz.
Shmyhal said local authorities must clearly inform residents about when heat supply can be restored. Where heating cannot be restored soon, electricity should be supplied for at least 18 hours a day.
He also said Ukraine is increasing cooperation with international partners on energy equipment supplies, with more than 30 countries currently providing support.
The minister thanked energy workers and everyone involved in restoration efforts for their dedicated and extremely demanding work.
