The energy truce announced for the duration of the talks will not stop Russia from continuing attacks on Ukraine’s power system without missiles or drones. Cyberattacks may pose a threat.
This view was expressed by cybersecurity expert Pavlo Belousov in a comment to Kyiv24.
He said the aggressor state’s promise to temporarily halt missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s energy sector does not rule out the use of other methods, including cyberattacks. According to the expert, the impact of attacks in cyberspace could be equally severe.
«We have seen more than one case where cyberattacks disrupted heat supply, and this previously had a serious impact on the energy sector. Cyberattacks are not going away and will intensify, ” said Pavlo Belousov.
He added that the use of artificial intelligence allows attackers to automate and improve phishing campaigns and accelerate the identification of vulnerabilities, significantly increasing the risk of successful breaches during hostile cyberattacks.
