Ukraine is developing a «Plan B» to protect its skies without American weapons — Zelenskyy’s advisor

According to Kamyshin, Ukraine is seeking solutions in case American military aid, particularly air defense systems and their ammunition, is halted.

Ukraine is actively developing strategies to meet its air defense needs amid a potential reduction in military support from the United States. Oleksandr Kamyshin, Advisor to the President of Ukraine on Strategic Issues, said this in a comment to Radio Svoboda at the GLOBSEC conference in Prague.

Statements by representatives of the U.S. defense establishment have catalyzed the search for alternative solutions. On June 10, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth noted that the U.S. budget for 2026 would include a reduction in military support for Kyiv. He also hinted at a «completely different perspective on this conflict» from the Donald Trump administration, emphasizing the pursuit of a «peaceful resolution through negotiations» rather than a «victory.»

Critical importance of support and challenges of replacement

Oleksandr Kamyshin stressed the unprecedented scale of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.

«We are in the largest war of our generation, and in this war, no single country can stand alone against Russia.» Therefore, support from both Europe and the United States is crucial for us,» the presidential advisor noted.

The Ukrainian authorities are already exploring various options for replacing critically important critical types of weaponry, including air defense systems. However, Kamyshin acknowledged that some systems supplied by the U.S. are extremely difficult to fully replace.

«The entire team is currently working to find these solutions,» the presidential advisor emphasized, without elaborating on specific negotiations or technical alternatives.
