President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is not asking Hungary to support or vote for its invitation to NATO - only to refrain from blocking it.

The President stated that Ukraine, together with Hungary, is preparing a bilateral document aimed at ensuring that Hungary does not obstruct Ukraine’s NATO invitation.

The Head of State told this during a meeting with local leaders in Zakarpattia region on October 31.

Zelenskyy spoke about the possibility of Hungary blocking Ukraine's invitation to the Alliance.

"Hungary is one of those who could partially block our plan. Of course, most of it depends on us. We will overcome any blockade from Hungary, to be honest. But it would be preferable if Ukraine could advance toward victory without blockades from neighbors - on the contrary, with their support. We can work on this together," he said.

He also mentioned that a bilateral document is being prepared between Ukraine and Hungary to "remove misunderstandings or challenges of the present, future, and even past."

“We want to avoid minority issues being raised. Issues may arise, but they should be addressed constructively, preventing further challenges between our countries. We see this as a positive development and have all the necessary proposals from the Hungarian side,” Zelenskyy added.

The President emphasized that security is part of the bilateral dialogue and the document:

“This is about the Alliance - NATO specifically. And the request is very straightforward - we’re asking Hungary not to block Ukraine’s invitation to NATO. Not to support or vote for it, but simply not to obstruct it. This is in our proposals, and it’s very important to us.”

“We feel warmly toward Hungarians, especially those who have hosted and supported our citizens during the war. We are in favor of dialogue,” Zelenskyy concluded.
