According to the locals the invaders are wiping Chasiv Yar off the face of the Earth, just like they did with the neighboring town of Bakhmut. The publication reports that in just the last two weeks, seven residents have been killed in the town.
Of the thousand who remain in the town, about 70% are pensioners. "We have no communication, we don't know anything. We've been disconnected from everything: no TV, no radio, nothing. No electricity, no water, no gas," says local resident Svitlana Kymivna. The 71-year-old woman refuses to be evacuated, saying, "I was born here - I will die here. I'm already 71 years old."
