200 cultural heritage sites were destroyed in Ukraine by Russian occupiers - Tkachenko
The occupiers are trying to wipe out Ukrainian culture and identity.
At least 200 cultural heritage sites in Ukraine have been destroyed by Russian soldiers. This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko.
“Russian troops are randomly destroying our cultural heritage: churches, synagogues, museums, monuments, theaters. The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy has already recorded 200 damaged cultural heritage sites, and these numbers, however, are not final," he said.
He stressed that by destroying the cultural heritage, the occupiers are trying to erase the history and identity of Ukraine.
“Destroying Ukrainian culture is one of their strategic goals in this war”, he added.
He noted that negotiations are underway with international colleagues to establish an all-European fund to restore funding for the ‘Great Restoration’ programme.
Meanwhile, Germany vows to help rebuild Ukraine's Chernihiv stadium, which was destroyed by Russian troops.
