The situation on the front has reached a critical moment, determining whether Russian forces will be able to advance further. However, it is clear that the enemy is unable to simultaneously attack on five to seven key directions and an additional four to five secondary ones.
This was stated by Army General Mykola Malomuzh, the former head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, during an interview on the "FREEDОМ" TV channel.
Malomuzh spoke about the enemy's plans and expressed the opinion that the front has reached a decisive moment.
"We are talking about a critical situation today, as the enemy has mobilized all resources, including additional reserves — not only Russian but also North Korean. They are trying to complete the task of capturing Donetsk and Luhansk regions by the New Year and are preparing new offensive operations in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia directions," the general said.
Situation on the Kurakhove front
He pointed out that Ukrainian forces are actively conducting counter-operations to weaken the Russian army, particularly on the Kurakhove front. According to Malomuzh, this direction is extremely important in the current confrontation.
He also says that in the hottest points, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not only holding defense but also maneuvering. In some cases, defenders are retreating to new positions and establishing fortified areas. This helps save lives and significantly increase enemy losses. According to the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Russian army losses range from 1,500 to 1,800 soldiers daily. These losses are substantial, although Russia continues to ignore them.
"But I want to emphasize that the enemy is still dispersing their forces, and it is practically impossible to hold five to seven main directions, along with another four to five additional ones," the general said.
Malomuzh explained the difficult situation for Ukrainian forces in the Kurakhove direction by Russia’s maximum concentration of efforts on surrounding the entire Pokrovsk sector, attacking from the flanks. The enemy is actively increasing the number of troops and trying to occupy new positions, but Ukrainian forces are preparing strikes from the rear and flanks to disrupt Russian plans.
"Additional resources have already been prepared, and as Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Syrskyi, has said, positions will be reinforced in the coming days," the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service said.
Situation on the Pokrovsk front
Meanwhile, on the Pokrovsk front, the occupiers' advance has significantly slowed, and there is no reason for panic.
"The format that was the main focus of the offensive has already been stalled. We have destroyed several hundred of the enemy forces in this sector. This is one of the tasks — to eliminate forward reserves and still combat-ready units," Malomuzh said.
He added that daily enemy losses amount to around 1,700 soldiers, and replenishing them is practically impossible. Large-scale mobilization would be required for systematic replenishment, which Russian president Volodymyr Putin has not yet initiated. Therefore, according to the general, other fronts have already been weakened, although the enemy is still trying to capture locations like Chasiv Yar.
