At the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, there was a leakage of reagents from the first circuit into the second at power Unit 5.
This information was reported by the “Energoatom” press service.
"According to the energy company, during the transfer of the 5th power unit of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to a “hot shutdown” state, an incident occurred with the leakage of reagents from the first circuit of the reactor to the second.
"Despite the existing violations, the occupying management is not rushing to switch the unit to a “cold shutdown” mode. They are using the steam generated by the 5th power unit for heating and meeting the station's own needs. Due to the incompetence of the Russian personnel, particularly the shift chief of the chemical department who lost control over the saturation of water treatment filters, the first circuit's water with a boric acid solution is entering the turbine hall deaerator and from there again to all steam generators," the company stated.
President of “Energoatom”, Petro Kotin, emphasizes that the actions of the occupiers are “absolutely incompetent” and could lead to a larger-scale emergency situation.
"Their attempts to take Unit 3 out of maintenance and bring it to a “hot shutdown” state instead of taking Unit 5 offline for a “cold shutdown” are yet another attempt to continue nuclear blackmail and damage the equipment of another reactor unit at the nuclear power plant," he noted.
Kotin added that such actions of the occupiers may lead to the loss of integrity of the steam generator tubes, which definitely does not comply with the regulations for the safe operation of the NPP power unit.
