"Atrocious and Illegal Russian Aggression against Ukraine": Polish Sejm Has Recognized Russia as State Sponsor of Terrorism

The Sejm of the Republic of Poland has recognized the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism, as it is stated in the text of the resolution adopted by the Sejm on Wednesday, December 14th.

According to the document, Russia "systematically violates human rights, international law and the UN Charter and a number of other obligations," "attacks the territory of other countries, commits armed aggression, war crimes and genocide," and "conducts hostile actions”.

As the Sejm noted in the resolution, Russia is "directly responsible for the crash of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 in July 2014, in which 298 passengers and crew were killed", as well as for the "crash of Polish Air Force flight 101, in which 96 people died, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski, Polish officials, senior Polish and NATO military commanders and members of Polish Parliament.

"Russian Federation conducts atrocious and illegal aggression against Ukraine. The Russian military launches missile and artillery strikes throughout the whole territory of the country, killing thousands of people, including many children. The Russian Federation and its armed structures and formations are responsible for acts of terror against civilian infrastructure, mass executions and abductions, sexual violence and torture, separation of children from their families for the purpose of russification, mass deportations of the population, and forced conscription of Ukrainian citizens into the Russian Armed Forces and theft of property. Russia has also repeatedly violated the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War," the Euros wrote.

The Sejm also stressed that the Russian Federation had committed an act of international piracy through "militarily blockade of Ukrainian ports paralyzing maritime traffic on the routes leading to them without declaring war".

"By burning and plundering Ukrainian land and preventing Ukraine from exporting agricultural products, Russia has brought the ghost of famine to many countries in Africa and Asia," the Sejm stressed.

The Parliament expressed support to independence and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, commended the Senate resolution recognizing the Russian Federation authorities as a terrorist regime and the European Parliament resolution recognizing the Russian Federation as the state sponsor terrorism.

The Members of European Parliament also urged the European Commission, other EU institutions and all UN member states to adhere to this attitude and take necessary actions to stop Russian aggression and punish the aggressor.

"The Russian Federation must be isolated in the international arena," the Sejm stressed.

The Members of Parliament also called on the Council of Ministers to continue and expand actions aimed at imposing further sanctions packages on Russia and those supporting Putin's regime, as well as further support for Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor country.

The Sejm urged the international community to develop a mechanism for war reparations to Ukraine and compensation to states, organizations and individuals who suffered damages in connection with the war.

"The Sejm of the Republic of Poland recognizes the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism," the resolution reads.
