Battle for the South: Ukrainian Armed Forces Have Started Counteroffensive Operation in Kherson Region: All Available Details

Invaders are leaving their positions, while Ukrainian units barrage the enemy from all available weapon systems.

Natalia Humeniuk, the Head of Joint Press Office of Ukrainian Security and Defence Forces “South” claimed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have started the counteroffensive operation in many areas in the Southern part of Ukraine.

"Today we have launched active offensive actions in various directions. The counteroffensive operation has started some time ago with the purpose to bleed the enemy and reduce its capacity to advance. However, today we have indeed launched active offensive actions in various directions, including Kherson Region”, she said.

Operational Military Grouping “Kakhovka” reported that almost all major bridges in temporarily seized Kherson Region were destroyed, including Antonivskyi railway bridge, Antonivskyi motorway bridge and Nova Kakhovka bridge. Right now only two pedestrian passages remain operational.

"The Russian army is now cut-off from weapon and personnel supply from Crimea. For Ukraine, it is a brilliant chance to fight back its territories”, the report reads.

In his Telegram channel, Andrii Yermak, the Head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office also made a hint about upcoming good news from the frontline.

Yermak posted a picture of Grad MRLS and wrote: “Our enemies will vanish like dew in the sun. Under blazing sunshine of Ukrainian August”.

Serhii Bratchuk, the Head of Odesa Regional Military Administration, also posted a list of enemy targets in Kherson Region hit by the Ukrainian forces by 1:00 p.m.:

• Beryslav. Destroyed military base of the Russian Federation

• Destroyed Russian outpost near Northern Crimean Channel

• Destroyed temporary bridge in Lviv (Beryslav District, Kherson Region) – the temporary bridge is totally ruined

• Ukrainian troops carried out a powerful strike against Russian military unit deployed in Kherson on Parovozna Street.

The powerful Ukrainian counteroffensive operation started when the Armed Forces of Ukraine exploded key bridges in Kherson Region.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out the first strike against the Antonivskyi bridge on July 19th. Later, another strike was carried out, and local invasion authorities was forced to close the traffic through bridge.

The strikes against bridges and warehouses at the Russia-controlled territory are mostly carried out using HIMARS MRLS with the range of up to 80 km.

In recent days, the Russians managed to carry out only superficial repairs to the damaged bridge. It was one of the key river crossing sites across the Dnipro in the Kherson Region.

The other two key bridges are the Antonivskyi railway bridge in Kherson and the Kakhovka bridge near the local hydroelectric power station.

Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the bridge in the area of ​​the Kakhovka HPP on August 10th, after which it became unfit for the passage of heavy equipment.

" The two primary road bridges giving access to the pocket of Russian occupied territory on the west bank of the Dnipro in Kherson Region are now probably out of use for the purposes of substantial military resupply," the British Defence Intelligence reported on August 13th.

Last week, the main railway bridge near Kherson suffered even more damage.

Also, on August 26th, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that they had struck the Dariiv bridge over the Ingulets River on the right bank of the Dnipro in the Kherson Region. The bridge is currently out of operation.

This bridge was the only transport artery for supply of the Russian military alignments in Kherson located on the right bank of the Dnipro River from Kakhovka.

Since the end of July, Russia has been using a pontoon crossing near the railway bridge as one of the routes to supply its army. Even if Russia manages to carry out significant repairs to the bridges, they will remain a major vulnerability.

In addition, in recent days, the Ukrainian army has successfully shelled Antonivskyi railway bridge, Russian military warehouses in the Oleshok, Chornobaiivka, Novaya Kakhovka, Beryslav and even in Skadovsk, which is located more than 80 km from the frontline.

However, the most noticeable achievement was the destruction of a 40-car Russian railway echelon with personnel and ammunition in Brylivka, 40 km from Kherson.

Russia has not officially commented on these attacks and Ukrainian statements about them. Meanwhile, the Russian media are sharing the videos taken by the local residents of these regions. The footages reveal sounds of explosions and scenes of fires.
