As a result of Russian attacks on infrastructure, millions of Ukrainians may face a lack of heating this winter.
This statement was made by President Zelenskyy during his speech at the UN General Assembly, as reported by "Radio Svoboda."
"The Russians continue to attack our energy infrastructure. At this point, Russia has destroyed all our heat distribution and generation infrastructure. Potentially, millions of people, millions of Ukrainians may be left without heating this winter. This is exactly what Putin aims for," he stated.
Since October 2022, Russian forces have been regularly attacking critical infrastructure. Due to these attacks, rolling blackouts have been implemented, and Ukraine is importing electricity to compensate for the deficit.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Russia has launched over a thousand strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, with 9 GW of generating capacity lost this year alone due to these attacks.
