How to prevent Russian strikes on Ukrainian nuclear power plants: Podolyak's opinion
Information has emerged about Russia's intentions to attack Ukrainian nuclear power plants ahead of winter.
Mykhailo Podolyak
To prevent strikes from Russia on Ukrainian nuclear power plants, it is essential to strengthen air defense and apply pressure through the IAEA. However, the priority remains coercion.
This was stated by Mykhailo Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President, in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
Russia only understands the language of force
According to Podolyak, Russia recognizes that the only method of warfare against the civilian population is through the total destruction of energy infrastructure. This involves not just targeting the plant itself but also its capacity to transmit electricity to the general grid, specifically the substations located nearby.
"And so, undoubtedly, Russia is developing such plans. This is obvious; we see that they are constantly looking for additional genocidal tools. I emphasize genocidal because this is a deliberate action aimed at depriving people of the ability to use electricity, heating and so on," Podolyak added.
As the advisor to the Presidential Office states, preventing the Kremlin's terrorist plans consists of several components, including:
⦁ Public awareness
"It is important to publicly speak about Russian terror and legally document the nature of the crime that Russia plans to commit," the advisor said.
⦁ Increasing the supply of air defense systems
"We must insist on substantial supplies of missiles for NASAMS, Patriot, and the launch systems themselves," Podolyak emphasized.
⦁ Pressure through the IAEA on organizations influencing the nuclear technology market
"Certainly, countries like India and China should be urged to halt Russia's intentions."
At the same time, the advisor to the Office reiterated: only coercion, that is, force, will stop Russia.
"A significant increase in the damage that Ukraine can inflict on Russian territory is necessary. This means a substantial escalation of the war on Russian soil. New appropriate tools are required for this, as you know very well," Podolyak concluded.
