On Thursday, October 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in the work of the European Council.
He made this announcement in his traditional address.
Zelenskyy noted that the leaders of the EU countries, the President of the European Council Charles Michel, as well as the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metzola were present at the meeting.
"The European Union is preparing several steps, which we are expecting. This includes new sanctions against Russia and new measures to support Ukraine. We are particularly awaiting the EU's political decision to begin negotiations regarding our country's membership, and from our side, we are doing everything to be prepared," he emphasized.
The President named the law on politically significant persons signed today as one of the elements of this preparedness.
"This law strengthens financial monitoring of the lives of key state officials and members of parliament. Its adoption is a clear signal of how seriously Ukraine takes the task of joining the European Union and making the work of its state institutions truly transparent," the Ukrainian leader stated.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also informed about his conversation with Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, "regarding the further development of our defense cooperation, the preservation of unity in Europe and among all our partners, and our Peace Formula."
The President noted that this conversation took place when Denmark announced a new defense aid package of over 500 million dollars.
