During six months of the full-scale war, the Russian troops have brought a lot of evil not only upon civilian human lives or municipal infrastructure, but also upon the nature and environment, TSN reports.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Recourses estimate the losses caused by the invaders as one trillion hryvnas.
The experts have documented over two thousand cases of deliberate annihilation of wildlife by the invaders. These are not only explosions of shells containing prohibited chemical compounds, but also deliberate incineration of woodlands, attacks against oil deports, bombings of Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and river contamination with chemicals. Even under the enemy shellfire, the environmental experts are doing their best in order to prevent and mitigate damage to the nature, where possible.
“Nature has no borders, and current contamination of Ukrainian atmospheric air, water bodies and soils by Russian troops creates a devastating chain reaction resulting in huge losses for entire world. According to the most recent estimates, the number of losses has exceeded UAH 962 billion, i.e. almost one trillion hryvnas, and this cost will continue to grow”, Ruslan Strilets, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Recourses of Ukraine, says.
