Fighting for Chasiv Yar: who controls the city and why it is important for Russia

Fierce fighting continues in the urban areas of Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region. Russian troops are amassing reserves opposite the settlement and in its outskirts for further assault actions.

This was reported by Viktor Trehubov, Spokesman for the Operational-Strategic Grouping of Troops "Khortytsia," on the air of the TV marathon.

The military says that Chasiv Yar is located on elevated terrain. From there, one can view and access the road towards the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration. This makes the city one of the most important targets for the enemy. In fact, Chasiv Yar is a dominant height that allows the Defense Forces to effectively hold it and inflict heavy losses on the enemy.

"This week, the main fighting is taking place along the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal. One of the main targets for the enemy in the Chasiv Yar area is the refractory materials plant. The enemy is constantly trying to infiltrate it, but Ukrainian forces are currently inflicting damage and repelling attacks," Viktor Trehubov explained.
