Short-term “ceasefires” that periodically resurface in the information space have no real confirmation on the front line. Similar initiatives have been discussed since the start of Russia’s aggression in 2014, but have never been implemented in practice.

This was stated on Ranok.LIVE by Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Zhorin, Deputy Commander of Ukraine’s Third Army Corps, as reported by Novyny.LIVE.

The officer addressed the idea of a temporary truce currently being debated ahead of the May 9 anniversary. According to Zhorin, talk of halting hostilities is entirely detached from reality, as these agreements simply do not work in practice.

“I would struggle to even say how many ceasefires I’ve heard about and lived through since 2014. But I have never seen a single one on the battlefield,” he said.

The lieutenant colonel stressed that the overwhelming majority of such agreements remain loud political statements and have no real implementation amid intense fighting.

Due to the enemy’s systematic violations of any agreements, Zhorin stresses that hopes for a rapid ceasefire are currently baseless and unrealistic. Ukrainian defenders must continue the fight regardless of political rhetoric regarding "silence."
