Initiated by Ukraine, the Global Peace Summit will take place on June 15-16 in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. Heads of state and government from all continents are invited and expected to participate.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on May 2 on social media.
Zelenskyy states that, in accordance with agreements with Swiss President Viola Amherd, the first Peace Summit will take place on June 15-16 in Bürgenstock, near the city of Lucerne in Switzerland. Leaders of states and governments from all continents are invited and expected to attend.
"The Summit will serve as a platform for discussing ways to achieve comprehensive, just, and lasting peace for Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter and norms of international law. All states invited to the summit have demonstrated their commitment to these principles," the statement from the Ukrainian President reads.
He also expressed confidence that "every peaceful country is interested in participating in the Summit, as it is of significant importance not only for Ukraine. It is about the global role of each country and genuine respect for international law and peaceful coexistence worldwide".
"These common rules enshrined in the UN Charter protect all countries from aggression and violence. Therefore, our shared global responsibility is to defend them with real actions, not just words. This is precisely what will be discussed at the first Peace Summit in Switzerland," Zelenskyy concluded.
