Ukraine's expenditures on security and defense in 2023 will exceed 1 trillion hryvnias.

This was announced by the head of the Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy of the Verkhovna Rada, Danilo Hetmantsyev, as reported by the Telegraph publication.

According to his statement, the current expenditures figures will be several times higher than the figures in 2022.

"Planned military expenditures by the end of the year will amount to 1.66 trillion hryvnias or 54% of all planned expenditures of the state budget. The current burden is even greater: we see that the expenditures on defense, security, and law enforcement for the first five months account for 60% of the overall budget expenditures," noted Hetmantsev.

According to the politician's information, Ukraine's security and defense expenses last year amounted to 1.54 trillion hryvnias.

"At the expense of tax and non-tax revenues of the state budget (without international grants), they were financed by UAH 1.3 trillion, which we covered at the expense of internal borrowings and issuance by the NBU," Hetmantsev emphasized.

He also mentioned that due to the ongoing war with the aggressor, Ukraine will continue to strengthen its defense. However, this year the situation with expenditures will be somewhat different, as the National Bank has decided not to resort to emission coverage of the budget deficit.
