How long Ukraine can hold out without help from Europe and the U.S. — National Guard Commander speaks

National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko
Commander of Ukraine’s National Guard, Oleksandr Pivnenko, states that Ukraine is capable of resisting Russian aggression for an extended period, even without support from the West.
He made this statement in an interview on Anna Maksymchuk’s YouTube channel.
«We won’t fall tomorrow. We will be able to hold out for some time — and for quite a while — because Ukrainians are a warrior nation. We rallied in 2022. And in 2014, we were ready in reserve. However, due to information warfare and other factors, something went off course. But there will be a shift in society, no matter what, ” said Pivnenko.
He is also confident that Europe and the U.S. will not stop supporting Ukrainians, as they understand that «Russia won’t stop with Ukraine — it will go further.»
«The enemy’s war machine is gaining momentum. It needs to be stopped. It won’t stop instantly because it’s shifting fully into war mode. They [the Russians] have plans not only for us but for other countries as well. And we understand this too, ” Pivnenko added.
He warned that if Russia were to win the war, it would move forward to attack other countries with its gained combat experience and hunger for victory. He emphasized that in such a scenario, «scaring each other with nuclear weapons» is not a solution.
The National Guard Commander noted that if Ukraine and its partners do everything right to resist Russia’s aggression, then «Russia won’t dare attack a second time.»
Pivnenko emphasized that Ukraine is actively developing its defense industry — particularly drone and missile production — both in terms of quality and scale.
The brigadier general also said that if the fighting in Ukraine were to stop, Russia would only need 2–3 years to recover and launch another attack.
During that time, Ukraine must build strong fortifications and form a powerful military force.
«We need such fortifications that they just die there outright. Build a 40-kilometer buffer zone filled with fortifications. And always keep our troops in combat readiness, ” he concluded.
