Russian invaders dropped aircraft bombs on the Arkhip Kuindzhi Art Museum in Mariupol.
The museum, which is now destroyed, hosted the original paintings by the world-famous artists. The sad news were reported by the press service of Mariupol City Council with the reference to Kostiantyn Cherniavskyi, the President of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
On the day of bombing, no original artworks by Kuindzhi were stored at the museum, but the building housed the copies by Andrii Yalanskyi and Oleksandr Olkhov. In addition, the original paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky, Mykola Glushchenko, Tetiana Yablonska, Mykhilo Derehus and other artists were also kept at the museum. Their fate is currently unknown.
"The museum’s collection consisted of more than 2 thousand items, including paintings, arts and crafts, graphics and sculptures. The invaders deliberately kills Mariupol residents, destroy critical infrastructure, erase our culture, annihilate everything essential for Ukraine”, the official message says.
