It is possible that an agreement on a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war could be reached in May. However, there are doubts about whether it will be long-lasting.

This opinion was expressed by Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, on the air of "5 Kanal".

Kostenko does not rule out the possibility of a ceasefire in May.

"Could there be some kind of ceasefire? Many predict that an agreement will be reached in May. I do not rule out that there might be some ceasefire plan or its implementation. Because, once again, I will say that this is very important for our partners in the United States, as their president came to power on these statements, and he needs some kind of halt to the war, and Putin understands this," Kostenko explained.

At the same time, he noted that "Putin is preparing."

"He continues to prepare, creating new units. The enemy is advancing, we see, to take more favorable tactical positions. Yes, this cannot be called an offensive, but active actions have not stopped," the MP described the situation.

He also expressed doubts about the duration of a potential ceasefire.

"A ceasefire format may be possible, but again, it depends on us — whether we agree to it or not. But whether it will be long-term and whether it will mean the end of the war — I'm highly doubtful," Kostenko said.
