The new Russian kamikaze drone "KUB-2", which the "Kalashnikov Concern" has started supplying to the enemy forces, has a larger warhead than the "Lancet" and is likely to replace the unsuccessful "KUB" version in production.
This was reported by Defense Express.
In Russia, the "Kalashnikov Concern", together with NPO "Izhevsk Unmanned Systems", developed the new kamikaze drones called "KUB-2". On January 21, it was announced that models with export indexes "KUB-2-E" would be presented at the IDEX 2025 arms exhibition in the United Arab Emirates from February 17-21, 2025.
KUB-2
"However, on January 7 the 117th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces published a video, showing the interception of this Russian UAV by an anti-aircraft FPV drone. But this "KUB-2" was mistakenly identified as a "Lancet", the analysts note.
What is known about the "KUB-2"
Currently, it is known that the warhead of this kamikaze drone weighs 10 kg.
"It is mentioned that it can be of two types: the first is designed to target personnel and unarmored vehicles, indicating its fragmentation nature. The second is intended for targeting both vehicles and lightly armored vehicles, as well as "UAV launch positions" and "helicopter base pads". This strange list of targets for the second type of warhead might suggest that it is a cluster munition," reported Defense Express.
It is also stated that the drone can be used not only during the day but also at night, suggesting that it may be equipped with thermal imaging cameras."
