There is a relative pause on the battlefield. Neither side has enough strength to launch a large-scale offensive, as military analyst Oleksiy Hetman said in his interview for FREEDOM.
"Neither Russia nor Ukraine has enough strength to launch a full-scale offensive. Therefore, the hostilities are limited only to local battles, and our offensive near Kreminna is local in nature. It is an advance of several tens of kilometers. This cannot be called a serious success. Although, of course, it is great, it is the right thing to do. There is a trench warfare near Bakhmut with small advances in one direction or the other. Therefore, it is not yet possible to talk about any significant changes on the front line," the expert explains.
Hetman assessed the chances of a new offensive operation by the Russian army actively discussed in mass media.
"When they say that there will be an offensive in February and in late spring, these are two different offensives that Russia is preparing. They wanted to reach the city of Dnipro from the south through Zaporizhzhia, and to move in the same direction from the north through Kharkiv and Poltava, so that our group on the left bank would be seriously encircled," he said.
According to the expert, the intensification of invasion army’s activity in the Zaporizhzhia sector is more likely to be reconnaissance by combat.
"So they tried to see how well the Ukrainian Armed Forces are doing near Zaporizhzhia, they made several attacks, but they failed, and again, the trench warfare is still going on," Hetman summarized.
