A Russian-made mortar was brought in Belarus for Vitebsk paratroopers.
Belarusian artillerymen of the 103rd Airborne Brigade's mixed artillery battalion (permanent deployment point in Vitebsk) have received a new Russian-made 82-mm 2B24 mortar, Belorussian Hayun group reports with reference to the unit's Telegram channel.
The mortar is an improved version of the 82-mm 2B14-1 Podnos mortar. 2B24 has a new and improved safety mechanism to prevent double loading, which is now implemented from the muzzle side.
The weight of the 2B24 mortar is 45 kg. The rate of fire is up to 20 rounds per minute. It is possible to use the new 3-O-26 type of artillery rounds, which increases the firing range up to 6 km as compared to the 2B14.
According to available information, the new mortar development was finished in 2019, and the supplies to Russian Armed Forces started in 2020.
In addition, analysts point out that in 2018 the said artillery division of the 103rd Airborne Brigade received 2B-23 Nona-B towed mortars (also Russian-made).
