Ukraine will not be able to conclude a bilateral agreement with Hungary without a clause on NATO.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement during a press conference following his participation in the European Political Community summit.

“For us, clarity in agreements is important. There are issues concerning minorities, and I believe we have done a lot. The European Commission’s findings show that there are no issues with us on this matter. We respect the Hungarian minority in Ukraine. However, a bilateral document includes not only what one side wants but also what is important for the security, present, and future of both parties,” Zelenskyy stated.

He emphasized that Ukraine values Hungary’s support for its EU and NATO aspirations.

“The document currently lacks Hungary’s support for NATO. And because of this, the document is not signed. That’s it,” the Head of State remarked.

Zelenskyy assured that Ukraine is keen on maintaining friendly relations with Hungary.

“Ukraine welcomes the fact that the European Union includes such a wonderful country as Hungary, that you are part of NATO, that you have historically endured Soviet pressure. We are ready to do everything necessary to resolve any issues between us. However, if there are objections from the Hungarian side on any Ukrainian issue, I believe that is not right. A bilateral agreement is about respect. And about whether you see me as an equal,” the President concluded.
