President Volodymyr Zelenskyy states that while he believes U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s words about a quick end to the war in Ukraine, his desire alone does not guarantee it will happen. Thus, Ukraine must be prepared for any outcome.
Zelenskyy made this remark during a press conference following the European Political Community summit on November 7.
“We indeed had a good conversation with President Trump. A good meeting. But discussions need to be more focused, and both sides need to prepare for that, at the very least,” Zelenskyy said.
He also emphasizes that a quick end to the war could entail losses.
“Today, I believe President Trump genuinely wants a quick solution, but wanting something doesn’t mean it will happen that way. And I say this without reproach… I’m simply stating that we are where we are. We are at war with the Russians - the most challenging enemy of this century. And I’m not just talking about human rights here. Of course, people are the most important. But this person (Volodymyr Putin) wants to tear Ukraine to pieces. And it’s a large country. What he can’t swallow, he wants to consume piece by piece. And this is a serious challenge. I believe that all other smaller countries, like ours, he would undoubtedly swallow whole, because that’s the kind of person he is. I am certain that a quick end to the war would mean losses. And we didn’t discuss this with President Trump. I think that conversation lies ahead,” Zelenskyy said.
