Germany plans to provide Ukraine with five Patriot air defense systems, but the delivery timeline is currently unknown.
Head of the Reservists' Council of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ivan Tymochko, noted that such deliveries require time, particularly for training Ukrainian crews.
He said this in a comment to «24 Kanal.»
It should be noted that, for now, there is only information about a promise from the United States to supply the systems to Germany, from where they will then be transferred to Ukraine.
At the same time, Tymochko explains that transferring Patriots is not an easy task. He notes that even if the Patriot systems are delivered in the near future, their combat use will only be possible after personnel training. Operating modern systems requires military personnel with a high level of expertise.
«It’s not enough to just receive them. We need to train people, form crews, and conduct training. The selection process is quite rigorous because specialists with a high level of knowledge are needed,» Tymochko added.
According to him, in addition to training, Ukraine must provide an entire infrastructure for maintaining the systems: logistics, repair bases, deployment sites, and patrol zones.
«I think all this has been happening behind the scenes. Now the issue is about finalizing the documentation and transferring them to Ukraine,» the military expert added.
