Vladimir Putin cannot be considered the legitimate president of Russia. Given this, Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), Andriy Kovalenko, believes that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov should "shut his mouth and stay as quiet as possible."
Kovalenko wrote this in his Telegram channel.
The NSDC emphasizes that Russia, as an aggressor state, also conducted elections in the temporarily occupied territories. From an international legal standpoint, elections held in occupied territories cannot be considered legitimate.
"This violates international law, the UN Charter, the Geneva Conventions, and UN General Assembly resolutions, which recognize Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions as part of Ukraine," Kovalenko wrote.
The elections in the occupied territories, in which Russia declared Putin the president based on their results, bear clear signs of blatant violations of international law.
The forced integration of the occupied territories into the electoral process of another state is a direct violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
The falsification of the electoral process is another issue altogether.
"The last elections in Russia were illegitimate, and Putin is an illegitimate president of the Russian Federation. That is why Peskov should shut his mouth and stay as quiet as possible," Kovalenko stated.
