Ukraine will continue to build relations with the United States regardless of the outcome of the upcoming presidential elections.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement during a press conference.
“First of all, let me say that we cannot discuss Trump’s presidency yet. Because the president of the United States is chosen by their people, thank God. No other nations influence this,” Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State emphasized that both parties in the U.S. Congress — the Democrats and the Republicans — support Ukraine.
He added that Kyiv has strong relations with the Republican Party. This, he stressed, was confirmed during his visit to Utah at the NATO summit.
“I had a meeting with a large number of governors, specifically Republicans. With great respect, I don’t know if you heard or saw, but they hold Ukraine, the people of Ukraine, our soldiers, and me in high regard. And I see that we will develop these respective relationships regardless of the outcome, that is, the choice of the American people in November. Therefore, I don’t see any major threats here,” he added.
Zelenskyy stressed that the views of both presidential candidates on ending the war in Ukraine are clear. If Donald Trump becomes the next president, Ukraine will work with him.
“We are at war, we are emotional. When there is uncertainty, and indeed the Republican Party is diverse, there are hawks whose messages are more right-wing or more radical, probably. But I want to say that the majority of the Republican Party supports Ukraine and the people of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy stressed.
