Protracted War Is a Great Danger": a Member of the European Parliament

Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin has started the full-scale war against Ukraine perfectly realizing that he must achieve certain success. He will not end it, until the success is achieved, told Lithuanian diplomat and a member of the European Parliament Petras Auštrevičius in his interview for Fakty.

According to him, Russia may automatically turn this war into a protracted conflict.

"Therefore, I consider all options very seriously. This may be more violent, but shorter war or more passive and longer war – all these fall on the shoulders of Ukraine. Long-term war s a great danger, because Ukraien must withstand it not only on the battlefield, but also as an economy. This is an important geopolitical risk", he noted.

According to him, the West hasn’t still developed a final vision of the modern Marshall Plan for Ukraine, since any further scenario of continued war is highly disadvantageous.

"Therefore, we must deprive Putin of possibility to continue hostilities. This may include sanctions, military aid for Ukraine and signals that the aggressor will pay the highest price for this war, which should be sent to Kremlin. If this signal attenuate, then Lavrov and other supremists in Moscow will be encouraged to pursue any scenario they are satisfied with. They realize that defeat in the war against Ukraine will mean the end of their career, deprivation of their current benefits and advantages or even the end of their lives…”, Auštrevičius stressed.
