Russian president-dictator Vladimir Putin continues his efforts to prepare the country's population for a prolonged war.
This is stated in a report by the American Institute for the Study of War.
Analysts note that Putin, during a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects of the Russian Federation and the commission of the State Council on Socio-Economic Development, stated that all Russians should realize that they are experiencing a unique historical moment. According to the "führer," they should "work as if they are on the front lines" and "feel mobilized" to achieve Russia's goals.
ISW emphasizes that Kremlin officials often refer to the myths of the Soviet Union about the Great Patriotic War - as the Second World War is called in Russia - to evoke support and trust among its citizens for Russia's military efforts. According to American experts, Putin likely intended to evoke similar memories of Soviet sacrifices and comprehensive social and economic mobilization.
"Previously, ISW assessed that Putin's decision to appoint Andriy Belousov as the Minister of Defense of Russia was a significant step in his efforts to mobilize the Russian economy for a prolonged war against Ukraine and possibly prepare for future confrontation with NATO," they add in the report.
Moreover, the Institute is convinced that the Russian dictator will likely continue various informational and rhetorical attempts to prepare Russian society for greater economic mobilization, "if he intends to pursue such unpopular policies of further economic and social mobilization in the medium and long term."
