Russian president Volodymyr Putin has proposed a "technical duel" with the West involving a missile strike on Kyiv using Russia's so-called "Oreshnik" weapon.

The head of the Kremlin said this during his annual "direct line".

"Let Kyiv propose a target for us to strike. Let them deploy all the NATO air defense and missile defense systems they can muster, and we’ll hit it with the "Oreshnik." We’re ready for this experiment. Are they?" Putin declared.

He further commented, "It’s something that could be beneficial for both us and the American side."

Putin claimed that current Western defense systems are incapable of intercepting the "Oreshnik" missile.
